Volunteer
We offer training, both in house and from outside agencies. We encourage all our volunteers to undertake any training relevant to their role, examples of which are “Communication Skills”, “Customer Service” and “Dealing with Difficult Situations”.
We offer bespoke, in house training to potential volunteer benefit advisors, covering all disability related benefits.
All volunteers are expected to regularly attend monthly Volunteer Meetings.
We reimburse out of pocket travel expenses (bus, petrol, car parking etc.)
All new volunteers are subject to reference and criminal record bureau checks.
Volunteer Benefit Advisors
To assist with client enquiries, both via the telephone and face to face.
Main duties will include advising clients on benefit entitlement and assisting with completion of application forms.
Initial full training and support will be provided, and advisors will not be expected to have their own client’s until ready and comfortable. Advisors benefit from ongoing support and training updates.
Minimum commitment is expected to be two half days per week.
Potential advisors will have
- Excellent communication and people skills
- Be non judgemental, and have the ability to show empathy
- Excellent literacy skills
- A willingness to assist clients in what can be stressful and difficult situations
- A willingness to undertake initial and ongoing training
- Computer skills (desirable)
- The ability to work as part of a team
Volunteer Reception/Admin Staff
To be the welcoming face and voice of DIAL Great Yarmouth.
Main duties include covering the reception desk, providing the first contact for client enquiries both telephone and face to face. Admin duties will include filing, photocopying, updating records and general office duties.
Minimum commitment expected to be one half day per week.
Potential volunteers will have
- Excellent communication and people skills
- A pleasant and welcoming nature
- A willingness to assist clients
- General admin or reception experience
- Computer skills (desirable)
Volunteer Retail Assistants
To assist in our charity shop. Main duties include sorting, pricing and displaying donated items. Sorting rags for recycling. Serving customers and using the cash register. General house keeping duties.
Minimum commitment expected to be one session per week (10am to 2.30pm).
Potential volunteers will have
- Excellent communication and people skills
- Excellent numeracy skills
- A pleasant and welcoming nature
- A willingness to assist customers
- General retail experience
Volunteer Drivers/ Drivers Mate
To assist with delivery of hire equipment and to collect donations for the charity shop.
Minimum commitment expected to be five hours per week (variable to suit).
Potential volunteers will have
- A full driving licence (driver)
- Regular access to their own vehicle (driver)
- Ability to lift and carry (driver and/or drivers mate)
