About Routes to Work

The Routes to Work Advisor is available to support unemployed people aged 19+ to move into employment, education or training. Our employment advisors are on hand to assist with reviewing and updating CV’s, completing application forms, prepare you for interviews and find the best options for you to upskill or retrain.

Depending on the level of employability support you require we are able to direct you to the most suitable service within our project to ensure a successful outcome. Our coverage area consists of Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft, Norwich and Waveney. Our team specialise in helping people access opportunities they once thought were not achievable.

What we offer:

A dedicated Employment Advisor on hand to provide support and guidance through 1 to 1 appointments.
Careers advice and pre-employment support – such as help with writing the perfect CV and some expert tips to impress at job interviews.
Working closely with local employers that can provide a variety of services such as: work placements, volunteer opportunities, CV feedback and mock interviews.
Opportunities to gain free, accredited qualifications that will help you to secure employment in your chosen industry.
Motivation for our participant to show employers the best versions of themselves by boosting confidence, overcoming interview nerves and equipping them with as much industry knowledge as possible.

Hours: 24 hrs per week

The Waiting Well Connector will provide nonclinical support to people awaiting orthopaedic surgery helping them to arrive for surgery and any follow up appointments in the best possible physical and mental health.

Research shows that people who keep mentally or physically active feel happier and live healthier. Patients taking advantage of this service can be helped to maintain and improve overall wellbeing and have a faster recovery post-surgery.

The Waiting Well service works alongside medical professionals and support agencies across Great Yarmouth and Waveney accepting referrals for patients identified as needing additional support. Support could include advice and advocacy on welfare related matters, connecting them to community-based networks of support and/or activities and encouraging people to remain safely active and take steps to live healthy fulfilled lives.

Key Purpose:

The Multi-Disciplinary Support Worker will support new and existing DIAL clients, as part of DIAL’s multi-disciplinary team. This includes providing advice and support to beneficiaries, diagnosing issues and connecting people into appropriate specialist internal and external support networks.

The post holder will connect with communities in face to face settings at DIAL’s Kingside base whilst also working alongside our partner organisations in various community settings to maximise the reach and impact of DIAL services.

Key Responsibilities:

· To work closely with the DIAL specialist services to provide advice and guidance to the most vulnerable residents within Great Yarmouth.

· To support client referrals to other local providers as and when their needs are identified.

· To work with other organisations to increase and raise awareness of services that are provided within Great Yarmouth, including organisations from the public, private and voluntary sectors, including services provided by communities themselves.

· To form working relationships with communities by undertaking outreach at a range of multi-agency hubs, including neighbourhood-led and early help hubs.

· To provide general advice and guidance on all housing matters.

Key Purpose: The Budgeting and Financial Awareness Adviser will be an integral part of the DIAL team and the services we provide to our community. Working from our office in Great Yarmouth and outreaching across our community, the post holder will provide support to people to develop their financial resilience.
The Budgeting and Financial Awareness Adviser will:
Provide professional and impartial information and advice to beneficiaries regarding all aspects of budgeting and money saving hints and tips.
Be an advocate for people they support working to ensure that the individual has the knowledge and financial understanding to enable them to budget and make financial choices in the future.
Be flexible in providing outreach support to the local community and schools outside of normal working hours, including weekends as and when required.
Main Tasks:
To provide face to face advice and digital support on budgeting and money saving tips.
To provide information to allow clients to make choices as to the options available when looking at switching utility providers.
To provide advice and support using dedicated digital and social media methodologies.
To provide budgeting workshops to schools and community groups both face to face and via digital channels.
To provide advice and support to community groups to improve their digital abilities.
To assist clients to develop and improve their digital ability to reduce annual renewal switching.
To recruit 10 mentors from the business community to support young people with budgeting when moving into employment for the first time.
To refer and signpost clients as and when identified, for specialist support.
To network and liaise with other agencies to promote DIAL’s services.
To maintain an up-to-date knowledge about money saving ideas, best deals etc.
To maintain accurate and timely records, monitoring and evaluation systems.
Provide monthly progress reports to the CEO, Trustees of DIAL, funders, and all other stake holders.

To liaise and build effective networks to develop strong working partnerships across the Borough.
To attend and contribute to meetings as and when necessary, throughout the term of the project.
To undertake home visits and work at various locations across the Borough as and when required.

Partnerships:

To name a few we have a Digital Inclusion Adviser, Carole, who helps with anything online from shopping to learning how to send an email, and much more. Anji, is our Energy Advocacy Adviser who helps with price comparison sites, money saving tips, etc. We have Maria who assists women from the age of 16 confidentially with accessing anything medical ranging from GP appointments, free sanitary items and help with building confidence and boosting low self esteem. Ian and Lisa are our new Employment Advisers, Lisa helps young people between the age of 16 and 24, whist Ian helps with 24 and above. They can assist in CV writing, covering letters, seek out any training opportunities and much more.

GOOD NEWS STORIES

Our Benefit Advisers won PIP appeal with Client being awarded a back payment of £2,273. This was one of several success stories advised of this month. Another one was a Client was awarded nothing on a PIP claim but after appealing was awarded standard for both elements with over £5000 in back pay. Brilliant results for us and very happy Clients.

They are working in partnership on a new project in Norwich, Great Yarmouth, South Norfolk and parts of Breckland to tackle the physical and mental health impacts of loneliness and isolation. The Village Orchard East CIC will now be working out of the DIAL office on a Thursday morning 9am until 1pm as from the 10th September. This is a counselling service for children, young people and families.

Temporarily suspended until further notice The East Coast College who provide the ESOL classes will hopefully return Tuesdays and Thursday in the near future so watch out for further news.

Volunteering Opportunities are always available here at DIAL, so if you have any free time and would like to help in our Charity Shop, please contact the office on 01493 856900 or pop along to the office to collect an application pack. Unfortunately, at the moment, we are not recruiting Office Volunteers due to the social distancing in the office.

We would just like you all to know we are still continuing our work to help the people of the Borough but are available only by telephone, Monday - Friday between 9.00 am and 4.30 pm. We are still able to book appointments which will be conducted by telephone. So, if you have any concerns, queries or need our help, please call us on 01493 856900 and we will endeavour to do our best with your benefit and financial issues whether they have been created by Covid-19 or not. On Thursday 5th March there is an event in the Assembly Rooms of the Great Yarmouth Town Hall in early celebration of International Women’s Day which is on Sunday the 8th March. See poster below for further details and come along to see what its all about:-

Norwich Credit Union are here Mondays 1-4pm and extra hour has been added due to demand, and Fridays 10-12.30pm providing advice to anyone having trouble with opening a Bank account or just wanting to save for a rainy day or to simply pay the bills. They are also offering Child Benefit Loans and will be taking appointment bookings on 01603 764904 or 07504 433758

Norfolk Family Mediation are still in the DIAL office occasionally on a Saturday, as required. Please call them for an appointment on 01603 620588 if you have a relationship breakdown and need help with making child arrangements or dividing assets.

East Coast College English classes with tutor Catherine on Tuesdays at 1.30-3.30pm. So come along if you wish to improve your english and gain a qualification. Also ESOL classes with Alex are every Tuesday and Thursday 9.30am - 12.30pm. So again pop along if you are in need of improving or learning english, and we would advise that these classes are very busy so to gain a place please be prompt at 9.30am

DIAL’s money and debt advice service in Belton at The John Green Institute is going very well and is every second Wednesday of the month with Stephen 10.30am - 12.30pm.

Social Blooms 2 Gardening projects at the moment are Peggotty Road Community Centre and Mesh in Gorleston. This is a very rewarding project and has improved the wellbeing and confidence of all Volunteers who are already part of it. So if you are interested in joining the team, enjoy the outdoors and gardening, pop along to see Project Co-Ordinator, Sian, or ring the DIAL office on 01493 856900 and give your name and contact details for her to get in touch

Our Craft Club is held on a Monday and Thursday 10-3.30pm for those of you who enjoy crafts and being creative. Just come along to see what its all about and maybe join in and meet new people. Below is just some of the things that have been created within the Craft Club.

On Thursday 5th March there is an event in the Assembly Rooms of the Great Yarmouth Town Hall in early celebration of International Women’s Day which is on Sunday the 8th March. See poster below for further details and come along to see what its all about:-

Go Geronimo Community Gym has finished its first 6 week session and we are awaiting confirmation of the next. So look out for the updates.

Shaw Trust are now here Monday to Friday between 9am and 4.30pm. Their specialist services help people gain an education, enter work, develop their career, improve their wellbeing or rebuild their lives. As a charity they add value to every service they deliver by investing back into the people and communities they support.

Voluntary Norfolk Better Together are also working out of the DIAL office. They are working in partnership on a new project in Norwich, Great Yarmouth, South Norfolk and parts of Breckland to tackle the physical and mental health impacts of loneliness and isolation. Tel: 01603 614474

Welcome to our February edition and for all those lovers out there Valentines Day is fast approaching. Our Valentines window is taking shape and changing all the time. We have cards, cuddly toys and general Valentine bric-a-brac on offer. So come along for a browse.

There is a lot coming up at DIAL this year so keep watching this space for details as they arise.

We are happy to report that the Go Geronimo Community Gym is now up and running and instructors Marten, Rachael and Paul are here at the times stated in the below poster. First 3 weeks are free then a small charge of £2 per session for a further 3 weeks. So come along and join in the fun and exercise.
